Two U.S. troops killed in Afghan bombing

A bomb exploded next to a U.S. military convoy in eastern Afghanistan, killing two American soldiers and wounding a third, the military said Saturday.

An Afghan interpreter was also wounded in the attack on Friday in Urgun district in Paktika province, the military said. The wounded were evacuated by helicopter to a U.S. base for treatment.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of these two brave individuals who gave their lives so that Afghanistan might have a safe and secure future,"? said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. James G. Champion, deputy operational commander of Combined Joint Task Force 76.

The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of their family.

The deaths brought to 147 the number of U.S. troops killed in and around Afghanistan since their mission began in 2001.

After a winter lull, loyalists to the ousted Taliban regime and other militants opposed to the U.S.-backed government of President Hamid Karzai have ramped up their insurgency with bombings and other attacks.

A war in two parts of the world where we are thought of as the devil?
And the words insurgents being used more now in Afghan. Has to make you think and wonder. What is the future for the US in these places? And when will we be out of them. We have already been in Afghan longer than expected. And i don't see a way out of Iraq now.

I don't see a way out of either place. And unless we can get reliable military force trained in each country, I don't see how we can popssibly win.

This whole situation over in Iraq is never going to get easier. The U.S. has gave more than anyone, training to their men, money that we need over here, most of all our troops lives. It's never going to be enough. Our men and women and all their families have suffered so much. I just don't see a way out of this anymore. Mr.Bush who I supported at first got us over there on reasons I don't understand anymore and now we don't have a way out. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm just tired of seeing our men and women die for something I don't even know if Iraq wants anymore. Should have blasted Iraq off the face of the Earth and start over from there.
